House and Mule
There is a house I really like near where I live. It’s an older house, an A-Frame, and by modern standards it’s not much to look at. Still, it reminds me of simpler times and I especially like the front gate.

One day, I was surprised to see a mule in the front yard.
Not that seeing a mule in a front yard is surprising where I live.
But, even in Oklahoma, I wonder about a mule waiting on the front porch – or at the front door.
I’ve come to expect her waiting for me when I take my evening walk.
And I really do like the front gate 🙂
Grandma Was Here
My husband found a patch of cactus in the woods behind our home last evening. He told our children, “Grandma was here,” meaning she had planted the cactus when she lived on our property years ago. She now lives in town, and my husband has been working to restore our land to the pristine condition it was in when he was a boy. My young son loves cactus, and has been asking me to plant cactus seeds,so the discovery of this patch was a pleasant surprise in more ways than one.
